Conditions were pretty firm but still managed to find some soft turns.  Jackpot, Hyrups, and Walshes were pretty rocky. We need snow

STATE OF THE TRAILS: I've been sitting here for about an hour trying figure out what to say about this and still teeter that fine line, and well, frankly keep my pass. So here it goes. Conditions are sketchy everywhere from Aspen northward to the Wyoming border. But out of all the of those resorts in this area we at Aspen currently have the best conditions. With that being said most of the locals are not skiing currently because of snow conditions. So to increase your enjoyment while Skiing or Snowboarding any of our 4 mtn's this is what we advise.
1. Have your kids that are snowboarders or skiers, if they are competent skiers/riders to stay in the terrain parks. That is where Aspen Skiing Company has mostly been blowing, snow. And the snow there is the softest.
2. I would not use your own skis/snowboards for right now. Every open trail does have rocks in places. I would bite the $ bullet and rent skis/snowboards. GET THE DAMAGE INSURANCE.
3. Only ski on opened groomed trails. The ungroomed are now hard ice bumps with some rocks popping out.
4. Do not ski/ride on closed trails. Ski Patrol does not need to be your SKI PARENTS when their expert services are needed on more important matters.
5. I do not recommend skiing/riding Hanging Valley area at SNOWMASS, or the open Sections of Highlands Bowl at ASPEN HIGHLANDS.

I'm going to keep reporting as long as my pass doesn't get canceled by Ski Co, or I run out of skis.

Aspen Snow Report 16 Dec 2011 "VIDEO"

Well here is what is going on.   The 9" of snow in the last week has helped but it is still very rocky on all trails.   Do not ski Buckhorn or you will hurt your skis badly.  Same goes for any trails that are open on Bell Mtn.  Remember to only use Rock Skis, and Snowboards until we receive at least 3more feet of snow.  And if you do rent skis or snowboards make sure you pay the $5 for damage insurance.

MOST IMPORTANTLY SNOW DANCE EVERYBODY.

Merry Christmas
JB

Well we received just a trace to 1" of new snow on Ajax since yesterday.  However, Ajax by far has the best snow conditions compared to Snowmass.  Ajax was mostly soft and fun all day long.  But on bump runs rocks and grass are showing up.  We need snow and there is nothing we can do about that.  It's up to the Big SkiBum up stairs.

Remember if you rent skis to get the $5 damage insurance.   Do a Snow Dance and.
